Check the date as well as the time when friends live abroad

For friends in different time zones, agree on the event time zone, read the local date and consider the burden of late-night meetings.

Daniel and a friend who had moved abroad agreed to play online on Saturday night. They ended the conversation without checking whose Saturday they meant. Next time, Daniel decided to ask which city's time before asking what hour. This is a fictional example of friends in different time zones.

Choose one time zone for the event

When creating a Pithup event, check Timezone under Additional settings. If you agree to collect candidates in Seoul time, choose that zone and state it in the invitation. Include the reference whenever you write a date and time.

Do not assume that every number somebody enters is a Seoul time. Participants should distinguish the event time zone from the local-time information shown on their device before responding.

Read the local date too

When the device and event time zones differ, Pithup shows converted times in the time axis or candidate details. Check the converted date as well as the hour. One city's weekend can be another city's working day.

Daniel asked his friend to check the candidate date, time and displayed time zone together. If a device is set to a different zone from the place where someone is staying, check that setting first.

Do not carry a remembered time difference into next month's appointment. Check the conversion for the date of the event, and include the reference time zone in the final announcement.

Respect rest as well as working hours

If daytime does not overlap across three cities, finding the largest awake group may still leave someone with a difficult night. A person working the next morning faces a different burden from someone on a day off. Ask everyone to mark times they can actually join rather than expecting one person to give up sleep.

If the same friend always gets the early hours, discuss a shorter call or rotating the time for future sessions. This event's responses do not establish availability for the next one.

Announce the reference date and connection details

Once the time is agreed, send the date, start and finish in the event time zone together with the meeting or game connection details. Everyone should check their own local date and time before putting it in a calendar. Adding a calendar entry and sending the announcement are separate actions.

Daniel's change was in how the appointment was written. Specifying whose date and whose time gives everyone the same starting point.
